Yes, in some cases (especially depending on the sector, such as hospitality), but you\u2019re entitled to a <strong>compensatory day off<\/strong>.<br>This <strong>Feiertagsausgleich<\/strong> must be given within <strong>eight weeks<\/strong>, including the day worked.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-eures-plugin-accordion-block\"><div class=\"accordion-top\"><p class=\"accordion-title\">In Belgium<\/p><svg viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"accordion-top__icon\"><path d=\"M3 12L21 12M21 12L12.5 3.5M21 12L12.5 20.5\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linecap=\"round\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><div class=\"accordion-content\">\n<p><strong>Friday, 15 August 2025<\/strong>: Assumption Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> In Belgium, it\u2019s the only official public holiday in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Friday is not a regular working day in your company, you\u2019re entitled to a <strong>replacement day<\/strong>, which must be taken on one of your usual working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can your employer ask you to work on 15 August?<\/strong><br>If Sunday work is generally allowed in your company, yes \u2013 your employer may ask you to work on a public holiday.<br>If Sunday work is only permitted on specific Sundays, then <strong>you cannot be required to work on any of Belgium\u2019s 10 public holidays<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you work on a public holiday, you are entitled to <strong>compensatory rest<\/strong>, which must be taken within <strong>six weeks<\/strong> (unless sector-specific rules apply).<br>You\u2019ll only receive <strong>additional pay<\/strong> if this is stipulated (e.g. in your contract, work regulations, or a collective agreement), or if the holiday work counts as overtime.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-eures-plugin-accordion-block\"><div class=\"accordion-top\"><p class=\"accordion-title\"><strong>In Luxembourg<\/strong><\/p><svg viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"accordion-top__icon\"><path d=\"M3 12L21 12M21 12L12.5 3.5M21 12L12.5 20.5\" stroke-width=\"1.5\" stroke-linecap=\"round\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><div class=\"accordion-content\">\n<p><strong>Friday, 15 August 2025<\/strong>: Assumption Day (official public holiday)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Friday is not a working day under your contract, you are entitled to <strong>compensatory leave<\/strong>, to be taken within <strong>three months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you work on 15 August, you are entitled to <strong>extra pay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The national holiday (23 June) has already passed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Further information can be found on the website of our partner&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/frontaliers-grandest.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frontaliers Grand Est<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summer is here \u2013 and with it comes a wave of public holidays\u2026 but not always on the same dates, depending on the country where you work!
